Oscars Hotels

As we all try to process and come to terms with the current reality we are all facing, the hospitality industry has taken a massive blow.  While we press pause on our freedom to indulge in eating out, sipping a coffee and whiling away the hours at our favourite cafe or grabbing an after work drink with a friend, it is important for us to remember that although we feel ‘hard done by’ there are businesses and peoples’ livelihoods that are at risk. It is at times like these that we all stop and realise how much we may have taken for granted in our lives and it is also at times like these that we can rally together and support small businesses in order to help keep our hospitality industry alive.

Here is a reflection on one of Sydney’s great hospitality groups, Oscars Hotels:

Who would have predicted that the acquisition of a solitary pub, nestled in Sydney’s Inner West some 30 years ago, would be the making of the Gravanis brothers?  Well as the wheels of fate aligned, it is safe to say that this single Inner West pub was most certainly only the tip of the ice-berg for this talented duo.  From one venue, to an ever-expanding portfolio, Oscars Hotels has swept through New South Wales, leaving an impressive trail of 31 venues in its wake.  Whether you’re looking for a chic after work tipple, a spot to while away the hours on the beach or some hearty home comforts, Oscars Hotels is the hospitality group that has you covered.  In their own words, Oscars Hotels hospitality venues ‘push the boundaries and plate up an exclusive and memorable experience’.  Time to test the theory Hungry Diner Style.

Up first: Harold Park Hotel

Craving a bit of community amidst the frenetic Sydney scene?  Then Harold Park Hotel is the spot.  Heralded as “the cornerstone of the local community” this place has risen from its historic roots into the new era with style.  Harold Park Hotel is the epitome of versatility – dinner with parents, a 21st birthday celebration or a hang out with friends, choose your spot over the 2 floor spread.  And dishing up epic pub grub to boot, they have pretty much nailed it.  Flex those muscles and fuel yourself up on the likes of chicken lollipops, salt and pepper squid, venison sausage roll, pan-roasted lamp rump and banana split to name just a few…

The Port Darling Harbour

If you’re looking to add a touch of ‘joie de vivre’ to your day, then look no further than The Port Darling Harbour.  Exuding chic, contemporary French coastal vibes, one could be mistaken for thinking they had landed themselves a long way from home.  Sipping on a cocktail or a glass of wine from the comfort of a harbour front cabana really is a pretty dreamy reality.  This place offers $5 Happy Hour from 5 til 7pm which is not to be missed!  A bright, expansive venue with a menu perfect for grazing or you can opt for something more substantial, like a hearty beef shin pie or beer battered market fish.

Greek at the Belvedere

Not only masters of the Olympic Games (pretty epic claim to fame already), more impressively in our opinion is the Greek’s ability to feast.  Thanks to head chef Stegios, feasting Greek style at Greek at the Belvedere is only a hop, skip and a jump away which kinda beats the long-haul flight alternative.  Opt for banquet or solo main meals – neither will disappoint.  Warm pita bread, greek fries, grilled octopus, pork souvlaki….get those stretchy pants at the ready!

Bristol Arms

Who doesn’t love a good Sydney skyline view with a drink in hand?  That’s what we thought.  Three distinct spaces: rooftop, public bar and Bristol Kitchen.  Bristol Arms has your post-sight-seeing, after-work-unwinding, birthday-celebrating needs well and truly met.

🏨 @bristolarmssyd 📍Sussex St in Sydney’s CBD. Bristol Arms Hotel is part of the Oscars Hospitality Group @oscarshotels with over 26 sister and brother venues within NSW. Few venues stand the test of time in #sydney and Bristol Arms Hotel – formerly known as “The Retro” is one of those venues. The venue has three different eating spaces. #1 The Rooftop Bar #2 The Public Bar #3 The Bristol Kitchen The Rooftop Bar with views toward Barangaroo, is a large, open bright space perfect for functions, private events, a good after-work stiff drink and weekend fun. On this mid-week night, I dined on the rooftop with fellow Sydney foodies @jimmywongeats @justin_time2eat and @everycrumb for a #boysnightout. We dined in the inside section of the rooftop close to the bar on one of the high tables. The venue manager and bartender were super nice. They helped us navigate our way through the bistro menu and cocktail selection. Entrees: Crumbed mozzarella sticks chipotle, parmesan Garlic prawns flatbread Peking duck cigars sweet chili sauce Salt & Pepper calamari tartare Mains: Rump steak 25ogr salad, fries Country beef red wine sausage mash, onion gravy Beef goulash pappardelle Steak-Frites w herb butter Wine: Fat Bastard Malbec Mendoza, Argentina 📸 Photos provided by Jimmy, Justin, and Christian.

Oscar II

Last, but by no means least on the Hungry Diner pit stop tour of venues at Oscars Hotels is one of Sydney’s most sought after vessels on the harbour.  Oozing a distinct opulence and style, Oscar II is 105ft of pure luxury.  Spread across 3 levels with the capacity to host 64 and sleep 10, it really does make for the ultimate luxurious experience.

Be sure to check out the other 26 venues within Oscars Hotels group because if these 6 are anything to go by, you won’t be disappointed.

From Mick,

“A special thanks to Georgie and Ashleigh from the Oscars team. You have one very loyal patron here!”
